Four Things People Don't Know They're Looking For In A Church

I John 3:1-10

1. Forgiveness
Part of God's grace
Titus 2:11-15
What does God's Word tell you?
What do you tell yourself?
What will you tell your children?
2. A Home
Theme from Cheers:
Making your way in the world today
takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries,
sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.
John 1:12
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--
1 John 3:1-2, 10
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

3. Hope Beyond Today
Eternal Life
Titus 1:2, 2:13
1 Corinthians 15:17-19
1TH 4:13
Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope...
PR 24:19-20
Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of the wicked, for the evil man has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.
4. Participation In God's Work
2 Peter 1:3-4
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
1 John 3:17
If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?
1 Corinthians 12:7
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
Summary
This is not a question about how we can increase the attendance of Christ Chapel, or any other church...it is more of a “checkup!”
Examine yourselves:
Am I a person who knows he/she's forgiven?
How am I at making others feel “at home” when they come/when they return to Christ Chapel?
When people see me, or hear me, do I display an attitude of hope or despair?
How can I tell, (how can anyone tell) that I am participating in what God's doing?
